ABOUT THIS PIECE

The first thing it came to mind when thinking about McAllen where the snack shops! I just had to include them by adding a mangonada (which are my sister favorite!) I also wanted to add the cactus and the agave plant because I see them everywhere and are a great part of where we live. For the Bougainvillea tree, I just had to add it, my grandma loves those trees and every time we see them when we drive around, she always points them out. Overall, the painting to me, means spending an afternoon with my loved ones.

ABOUT THIS ARTIST

Laony Oramas was born in Venezuela in a small town: Guatire, considered part of the capital zone Gran Caracas. He grew up surrounded by a lot of love and a great family; He has always characterized myself as a very cheerful and sociable, lover of music and art.

Eight years ago, He immigrated to the United States in search of a better quality of life, fleeing from the dictatorial government that took over his beloved country. As a way to relieve nostalgia he have been painting and letting his soul express itself through creativity with his colors. Five years ago, he arrived in McAllen, which became his home city for 3 years.

He has been participating in the standpipe project sponsored by Keep McAllen beautiful. Currently he has painted 4 pipes and about to start the 5th. Laony loves being able to participate beautifying the city and other artistic and cultural projects
