ABOUT THIS PIECE

All my life I have admired the Tulipan de Monte plant for its beauty and for its resilience to flourish in a region plagued with severe heat and at times droughts. This spectacular plant is known to bloom all summer long and into the fall providing nectar to hummingbirds and our much beloved butterflies.

When creating this piece, I chose to create a bold and vibrant artwork. Therefore, I strategically placed each flower in order to create a balanced and harmonious painting. This was accomplished by making each individual flower visually connect to one another. The placement of each petal and leaf naturally wrapped around the irrigation pipe.  I am an artist who loves to create colorful works of art.  I conveyed that within my composition by using red and yellow hues to contrast the Aztec blue used on the background. I specifically painted one red tulipan surrounded by yellow ones in order to create a focal point in my composition. - Olga Escobedo
