The painting is inspired by the beautiful sunsets and natural beauty you can find here in McAllen. The sunrays represent the welcoming warmth of the sun on any given day, while the face on the sun represents how you will always be seen here, how the people here will always support you.  - August Canales

ABOUT THIS ARTIST

I was born and raised in McAllen, Texas, with my family of six (myself included). While we are not rich by any means, we do get by and are incredibly grateful for any opportunity we are given, including this opportunity to paint something beautiful for the city. I am currently in high school but I hope by the time I graduate I can continue supporting this wonderful city that helped raise me and make my family proud.
