ABOUT THIS PIECE

This is my very first public funded art project! This artwork was inspired by nature and the vibrance of greens in the RGV. There is so much beauty and color in nature here and I wanted to make sure that I captured it in my own style. The lines and swirls in the artwork are the doodles I have been creating my entire life. I like to think this is my signature art style, although I've seen variations of it all over the world. I've made prints of these swirls and included them in many paintings. They're my go-to doodle and what feels most natural for me to draw when my mind is blank. I am drawn to this piece because it symbolizes my continued growth and progress in art and in pursuing my deepest passions. I had an amazing time painting, getting to know the locals walking the trails and stopping by to ask about the artwork, and immersing myself in a new challenge. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity KMB! - Lupita Salinas

ABOUT THIS ARTIST

My name is Lupita Salinas and I grew up in the RGV. Throughout my childhood I was very curious and creative with anything art. From doodling on my school assignments to painting giant portraits of my pets on my parent’s garage to amuse them and giggle at together, I have always engaged with every new artwork with utmost attention and fascination.  I never really saw myself pursuing art as an adult. I didn’t think it was possible to live off of my art and to be able to generate real income from doing the things I was drawn to. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from UT Austin and I worked at a bank and a tech company for a couple of years, but I wasn’t very happy. Then, in 2019, at my lowest point financially and mentally, I picked up a brush again for the first time in years and painted a portrait of my best friend’s pet. I soon received orders to paint people’s pets online. The rest is history, documented on my Instagram and other social media accounts!
