ABOUT THIS PIECE

Watermelon brings back memories of when I was a child. Watermelon is not just a summer snack, but a reminder of the hard work my grandparents did to provide for our family. On summer days, my grandparents would go out into the fields and fill the truck with watermelons while my siblings and I ran around in the dirt. When we would get tired, my grandma would cut a watermelon and give it to us while they worked. Watermelon has shown me how hard people, like my grandparents, work in order to allow their loved ones to study and have a better and brighter future. - Angelica Rodriguez
