The Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) pipe in our city stands as a vibrant and meaningful symbol of inclusion and recognition for our deaf and hard of hearing students and community. This beautifully painted mural, created through a partnership between the RDSPD program at McAllen ISD and the City of McAllen, transforms a city irrigation pipe into a powerful statement of visibility and pride. With colorful hands signing words like "listen," "culture," and "grow," the artwork celebrates the rich language and contributions of the Deaf community. It serves as a daily reminder that our city values diversity, embraces accessibility, and honors the unique expressions and experiences of all its residents. - Yvette Olvera
ABOUT THIS ARTIST
Yvette was born and raised in Edinburg, Texas. A self taught artist, enjoying all kinds of art forms, from painting to graphic design. Created their own art business called EviieeArts in 2020, and fulfilling their dream of being an artist!
Graduated from UTRGV spring 2023 with a bachelors degree in psychology in hopes to help others relieve their stresses and anxieties through art.
