TThe bold, contrasting colors are intended to vibrate energetically against one another, creating a vivid visual experience for viewers. My hope is that the artwork delights commuters as they pass by at 45 miles per hour, offering a brief moment of brightness and lifting their mood during the routine of daily travel.

The influence of Fauvist color theory has informed my artwork for decades. I have always been drawn to expressive, non-naturalistic color and the emotional energy it can create within a composition. In this piece, exaggerated color relationships and simplified floral forms work together to create a sense of movement, joy, and visual excitement. The painting is meant to feel alive, playful, and uplifting, transforming an ordinary public space into something more imaginative and engaging.”

ABOUT THIS ARTIST

I am Kenneth Foltz, a full-time artist whose passion for art has shaped my life for more than four decades. My artistic journey began in grade school and has evolved into an ongoing exploration of figurative art, portraiture, still life, landscape, and abstract painting. I work primarily on canvas and wooden panels using acrylic paint, charcoal, and collage.



My paintings are often characterized by vibrant, non-local Fauvist color, used intuitively to create emotion, movement, and atmosphere. I am deeply inspired by the cultural richness and natural beauty of the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, where I have lived since 1985. Growing up in various towns and cities throughout Texas and Colorado also gave me a broad range of experiences that continue to influence my perspective and artistic voice.

Through my work, I aim to celebrate cultural heritage, resilience, and shared human experience while creating expressive images that spark imagination and conversation. I am influenced by contemporary fine art, abstract expressionism, and color field painting, yet my work remains grounded in personal memory and observation.

My artwork has been collected by local and international clients and exhibited in museums and galleries throughout South Texas. In September 2023, I held a solo exhibition at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art and have participated in multiple group exhibitions there as well as exhibitions at the International Museum of Art & Science. Art continues to be both my calling and lifelong dedication.
